He earned an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University in 2009, and an M.Ed. in Counseling from the University of North Carolina in 1979. His foundational education includes a B.A. in Psychology from Appalachian University (1975) and a B.A. in Spanish (1987) from the University of North Carolina, where he also completed an M.A. in Speech Communication in 1993.
